About The Role

A vacancy exists for an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to join the STFC Engineering Technology Centre (ETC) in the Technology Department at Daresbury Laboratory, Cheshire. You will be part of a team responsible for designing complex electrical engineering solutions for a variety of collaborative science projects. This will involve the specification, procurement, system integration, installation and commissioning of engineering systems to be located at various international science facilities.

List of Duties/Work Programme/Responsibilities

Working closely within a multi-disciplinary team you will:

  • lead a team of electrical designers, engineers and technician managers, coordinating design reviews and progress meeting to deliver complex engineering solutions
  • provide electrical design consultation and fault diagnosis for a wide range of science applications including vacuum equipment, motion control, functional safety and electrical distribution
  • manage technical documentation and project files, continually improving the Division’s Quality Management System
  • be responsible for the electrical drawing office databases and code of practice
  • attend conferences, present papers and posters to promote the work of the division and keeping up to date with the latest engineering developments

About You

You must have a Higher National Certificate or Diploma in electrical/electronic engineering or equivalent in a relevant discipline and have experience designing electrical systems. Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD and electrical European Standards will be essential as well as practical experience in project management, safety related control applications and the procurement of specialist equipment. Working towards Chartered Engineer status with experience in motion control and programming PLC based systems would be desirable.

You will need a high level of drive and enthusiasm and the ability to utilise organisational systems effectively, plus advanced interpersonal skills, particularly in communication, negotiating, networking and team building. You must also be prepared for some overseas and UK travel for short periods.
