We are seeking a bioinformatician/biostatician to work on the analysis of studies investigating the inherited basis of cancer, in particular analyses of large-scale chip based genotyping data and next-generation sequencing data in large population-based studies of ovarian cancer.

This post is based in the Cancer Research UK Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology (CCGE), which forms part of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care and the Department of Oncology within the Cambridge Cancer Centre. The CCGE carries out research into inherited susceptibility to common cancers and conducts significant large-scale analyses both within the Centre and as part of ongoing collaborations. The Centre comprises some 25 staff, including research staff, statisticians, computer officers, administrative staff and post graduate students as well as 2-3 visiting researchers each year. The current annual budget for the Unit is over £1m, mostly in the form of grants from Cancer Research UK, the European Union and the US National Insitutes for Health.

The postholder is required to support implementation of large-scale data analyses investigating aspects of the inherited susceptibility to ovarian and breast cancer. This will invlove the collation and analysis of data from a variety of sources including in-house and publicly generated data sets.

Applicants should have a good degree in bioinformatics, statistics or a related scientific discipline or have equivalent experience. Previous experience of working with next generation sequence data would be a strong advantage. Experience of shell scripting in a Unix environment, programming in R, and a sound knowledge of Perl or Python, would be a strong advantage.

Funding is available for 3 years from start date.
