Detail information about job Research Fellow (fixed-term). Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited from research scientists for the above post in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science.

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake high quality research on a H2020 EU-funded project, led by the University of Nottingham, investigating pathogen, livestock, environment interactions involving bluetongue virus (BTV, PALE-blu). A major goal of BTV research is to generate vaccines that protect against multiple serotypes of BTV. Currently vaccines only protect against single serotypes. The project will involve the identification of cross-reactive epitopes within a range of BTV VP outer membrane proteins and non-structural proteins that are targets of neutralising antibody and cell-mediated immune responses respectively. These will be incorporated into novel vaccines.

This work is in collaboration with other colleagues at the University of Nottingham (Professors Peter Mertens, Jon Ball) and 18 other partners across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Candidates should have or expect to obtain (thesis must be submitted or date of submission imminent) a PhD in a relevant biological science. Experience in virology (particularly RNA viruses of animals), immunology, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques is essential. Experience of ruminant immunology and virology and working at containment level 3 is desirable. Candidates must value teamwork and collaboration, have good administrative and interpersonal skills, and high computer literacy.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post until 30 April 2020.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor David Haig (email: [email protected]). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.

It is a condition of this post that satisfactory basic disclosure is obtained.
