Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Associate in Molecular Simulations of Nanopores. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake research in Molecular Simulation Studies of Hydrophobic Gating in Membrane Nanopores. The hypothesis underlying this project is that hydrophobic gating can be used to design voltage-switchable membrane-spanning nanopores. State-of-the-art simulations embodying at multiple levels of description will be used to test this hypothesis that hydrophobic gating is physically meaningful and can be exploited in design of biomimetic nanopores. This research is both timely and novel, as recent advances in pore design and advances in computational methods mean that for the first time it is realistic to robustly test the hypothesis and to productively exploit the outcome for real-world impact. Thus, the overall aim of this project is to demonstrate that voltage-sensitive hydrophobic gating is structurally and energetically feasible in biomimetic nanopores.

Applicants should possess a PhD, or expect to obtain soon a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or a related discipline, and should have experience of advanced molecular modelling and simulation techniques applied to biological systems. You should also have experience of scripting languages and of high-performance computing. The ability to manage academic research activities, as well as work as part of a multidisciplinary team, is essential. You should also have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for high impact publication, and to present research outcomes at meetings.

This full-time, fixed-term post is funded by the EPSRC for up to three years in the first instance.

Further particulars, including details of how to apply, can be obtained from the document below.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 8 September 2017, with interviews for shortlisted candidates to be held as soon as possible thereafter.
