Full Time/Part Time (minimum 0.8 FTE)

About us:

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is the UK’s leading research agency for the social sciences.  The studies and research we fund are vital in enabling government, business, civil society and the public to learn about social and economic change and understand the reasons behind it.

About the role:

As one of two Grade D staff in ESRC’s Insights Team, you will contribute to the work of the team by supporting evaluation and analysis activities across all ESRC business areas.

Some of your work will reflect ongoing or recurrent evaluation and analysis requirements while some will arise in response to ad hoc requests, potentially coming with little notice and short deadlines.

Collaborative working across ESRC and beyond is part of the role. You will represent ESRC on cross-Research Council groups and speak on behalf of the organisation as part of UKRI.

While maintaining an ability to undertake and complete new activities at short notice you will:

  • Line-manage one or more members of the Insights team as required
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to collaborate across ESRC, in particular with the Business Improvement, Strategy and Interdisciplinarity, Innovation & Impact teams, with the aim of helping to create an ‘Excellent ESRC’
  • Represent Insights on internal and external working groups or in other organisational contexts.

You will work as part of a team to identify, develop and analyse evidence which will support the evaluation of ESRC investments and processes.

About you:

It is essential that you have an understanding of the role and work of the Research Councils and the broader UK and international landscape for research and innovation, including the Government’s policy objectives for investing in research.

Experience of working with a range of sources of data, evidence and analysis, including experience of creating, gathering and managing your own information and data is required within the role.

You will have experience in using Microsoft Office products, in particular Excel, or similar tools to analyse and present data and other information.

You must have effective communication skills, both written and oral, in particular an ability to produce clear, concise and accurate presentations and written documents which can reach and influence different audiences.

Planning, organisational and time management skills are also essential.

Experience in conducting surveys or structured interviews would be beneficial but not essential.
