We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated scientist to work on the CompactDating ERC Proof of Concept project led by Dr Kieran Flanagan. This work builds on research conducted at CERN that successfully demonstrated single atom detection using collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy performed on an accelerated atom beam. The research project is based in the Photon Science Institute and School of Physics and Astronomy. You will assist in the testing and commissioning of equipment, the maintenance and development of the laser systems, and conducting experiments.
You will possess a Ph.D. in a relevant field (laser spectroscopy, atomic physics or mass spectrometry). Knowledge of experimental techniques in the field of quantum optics, atomics physics and mass spectrometry would be advantageous.
