Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Associate Ocean Waves and Currents Environment Modelling for Offshore Wind Turbines. Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to undertake a research project on modelling Ocean waves and currents environment conditions and evaluation for offshore wind turbines. The PDRA will work with Dr Venki Venugopal and Prof David Ingram in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. The position is to commence as soon as possible, and is a fixed-term post for 12 months.

This work forms a research work package (WP1) within the EPSRC UK-China joint research funding, titled ‘Resilient Integrated-Coupled Floating Offshore Wind platform design methodology (ResIn)’ led by Exeter University. Other research partners within ResIn include University of Edinburgh, University of Bath, Dalian University of Technology and Zheijang University.

ResIn aims to design resilient floating offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) systems with a focus towards floating wind, that withstand the extreme typhoon conditions in China. The vision of the project is to establish an enhanced met ocean characterisation for the South China Sea, allowing to inform the development of a resilient and robust approach for ORE systems enabling industrial readiness.

The key objective of the research work undertaken at Edinburgh University is to assess detailed ocean wave-current environmental conditions for offshore floating wind turbines which will be used as input to other work packages in ResIn. The other key work packages include engineering design, computational modelling and resilience approach centred risk based design methodology.

You should have (or be due to submit soon) a PhD in Engineering/Mathematics/Science or a related subject. You must have relevant expertise in numerical modelling of ocean waves and currents, and experience in extreme waves and typhoons. Relevant industrial engagement/experience is also desirable.

This post is full time and fixed-term for 12 months. The post is available from October 2017.

Closing Date: Thursday 7th September 2017 at 5pm (GMT)
