We are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual who will have strategic and operational responsibility for the management of the Business School's Commercial Services team. The successful candidate will be creative and enthusiastic and will share our commitment to achieving excellence. They will be responsible for ensuring the Commercial Services strategic objectives are achieved through the development of the Business School's portfolio of consultancy services and its range of learning and development programmes. The post holder will also play a crucial role in helping facilitate the development of the School's academic capacity for delivery of consultancy and corporate learning services and will help raise the profile of academic areas of expertise.

The post holder will also be responsible for leading the External Collaboration Unit which will have oversight of the Business School's outward-facing commercial activities. They will have the ability to articulate a clear vision for the Unit's future, and to motivate others to work collectively towards that vision. This role comes at an exciting time in the development of the Business School's objective for greater external collaboration and significantly increased income generation. The principal focus of the External Collaboration Unit is to enhance the commercial nature of a number of areas of Business School activity as well as achieving synergies across networks and operation. These areas include employer engagement, degree apprenticeship business development, UK and International partnerships and research.

You will:

  • Conclude the formation of the Commercial Services team as part of the ongoing strategic development of this area
  • Line manage the Commercial Services team including a business development manager (vacant), an account process manager and administrative support
  • Make a major contribution to the strategic and operational planning of the Commercial Services team
  • Be responsible for all aspects of budget management and control, including establishing appropriate surplus and turnover targets
  • Deliver to agreed income and other targets demonstrating sustainable growth potential
  • Lead on and be responsible for, where appropriate, the delivery of teaching and learning activities for clients
  • Lead and be responsible for the development and increase in the School's consultancy and corporate learning capability
  • Have strategic oversight (working with the relevant Associate Dean) of the External Collaboration Unit's outward-facing commercial activities.

You should have:

  • A Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification and significant commercial experience
  • Significant business development experience in a similar environment including a track record of establishing effective networks
  • Significant experience in delivering learning, training, consultancy and management development to and for corporate clients
  • Significant experience of financial management and control
  • Significant experience in providing leadership and motivation to a team of managers.
