Detail information about job Postdoctoral Training Fellow. Terms and conditions vacancy

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 4 years on Crick Terms & Conditions of Employment

Short Introduction/Summary

We are seeking an independent, ambitious and highly capable scientist to work on mechanism of action and target engagement studies of antibiotic compounds, using LC-MS metabolomics and metabolic flux studies. This project is a collaboration between the Francis Crick Institute, the University of Birmingham and the GSK Open Lab. Experience in metabolomics and metabolic flux studies is essential. All microbiological experiments will be performed with virulent Mycobacterium tuberculosis, in category 3 laboratory. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to work with a number of other scientists from our group investigating diverse M. tuberculosis metabolism.

Project Scope/ Description

The goal of this project is to expand and improve the use of LC-MS metabolomics and metabolic flux experiments to define mechanism of action of antibiotic compounds and confirm their target engagement within M. tuberculosis. The successful candidate will join a highly diverse lab with chemists, microbiologists, geneticist, biochemists and structural biologists. The goal of our research programme is to understand how M. tuberculosis metabolism facilitates infection and persistence, and antibiotics affect/and are affected by M. tuberculosis metabolic network.

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease. Its work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.

An independent organisation, its founding partners are the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King’s College London.

The Crick was formed in 2015, and in 2016 it moved into a brand new state-of-the-art building in central London which brings together 1500 scientists and support staff working collaboratively across disciplines, making it the biggest biomedical research facility under a single roof in Europe.

The Francis Crick Institute will be world-class with a strong national role. Its distinctive vision for excellence includes commitments to collaboration; to developing emerging talent and exporting it the rest of the UK; to public engagement; and to helping turn discoveries into treatments as quickly as possible to improve lives and strengthen the economy.

The closing date for applications is 08 September 2017 at 23:30.

Please note: all offers of employment are subject to successful security screening and continuous eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
