Salary£26,829 to £28,452 (PhD nearing completion)£29,301 to £38,183 (PhD awarded)

You will join the geodesy team within the Geomatics Group and carry out research into the analysis and utilisation of GPS/GNSS observations for positioning and deformation monitoring, including the precise determination of horizontal and vertical motions of the Earth's crust in Antarctica. The project will involve national and international collaborative research, and may involve remote fieldwork. You will disseminate your work via leading international journal publications and conferences, and may also contribute to the engagement activities of the School.

You must have a PhD in geodesy, geophysics, or a closely related scientific/engineering field, either awarded or in the final stages of writing-up and examination by the time of appointment. You should have a proven or emerging track record of self-motivated progress in academic research, including publication in peer-reviewed journals, and a demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.

You must have high-quality written and oral communication skills in the English language, and expertise in scientific computing under the Linux (or other UNIX) operating system. You should be familiar with the use of one or more of the major scientific GPS/GNSS processing software packages for high-precision positioning. Ideally, you will also have practical skills in GPS/GNSS and terrestrial surveying fieldwork.
