Detail information about job Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Applied Mathematics. Terms and conditions vacancy
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath is inviting applications for a Lectureship (Assistant Professor) in Applied Mathematics to strengthen the activities in its Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics at Bath (SAMBa).
The SAMBa CDT trains graduate students at the interface of Statistics, Applied Mathematics and Stochastics applied to real-world problems, and we invite applications from researchers in any area of mathematics that falls within this definition. We particularly encourage applications from within the fields of control theory, imaging, inverse problems, multi-scale problems, networks and their applications, optimisation, uncertainty quantification, as well as from those working in the application driven areas of mathematical biology, mathematical geosciences, nonlinear mechanics and other interdisciplinary or industrial areas.
A successful applicant will have a developing track record of independent research of international standing. The appointee will be expected to sustain a leading research programme, and to be active in developing and submitting competitive applications for external funding. Candidates should also have a strong interest in pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in supervising graduate students.
Applications from all groups currently under-represented in academic posts are particularly encouraged. We are working to improve the present gender balance within the Department, and particularly welcome applications from women. Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. Flexible working options will be considered wherever possible. For more information visit http://www.bath.ac.uk/hr/working/flexible-working/.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences has over 70 academic staff from all areas of Mathematics. There are strong interactions between Statistics and Applied Mathematics, as well as a wide variety of interdisciplinary research projects and industrial collaborations. Apart from the SAMBa CDT, which has an annual intake of 10-15 research students, these activities are also supported by the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation, which helps businesses solve complex mathematical and statistical problems, and promotes cross-campus research activities and international collaborations.
Alongside completion of the online application form, candidates should upload:
- A full Curriculum Vitae
- A statement of research interests of up to 3 pages, also explaining how their work would strengthen existing activity at Bath
- A one page summary of teaching experience and strategy
Informal enquiries may be addressed to: Professor Rob Scheichl ([email protected]), Professor Paul Milewski ([email protected]) or Dr. Melina Freitag ([email protected]).
