The School of Architecture, within the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment is recruiting for a Research Fellow to help with the implementation of externally funded projects in the Low Carbon Building (LCB) Group. Some of the projects in LCBs portfolio include EPSRC funded Whole Life Performance plus, EU-funded ZERO PLUS and Innovate UK funded I-LIFE projects.

This is a full time, fixed-term appointment for 24 months starting from 1st October 2017.

You will be responsible for:

  • Implementation of externally funded projects in the Low Carbon Building (LCB) Group
  • Develop robust monitoring protocols to measure the actual (in-situ) energy savings and environmental performance of these solutions in real case study buildings
  • Monitor the case studies and collect all energy and environmental data regarding their performance, as well as feedback from occupants
  • Gather knowledge and learning to undertake meta-analysis of Innovate UK's Building performance evaluation domestic projects
  • Define an effective monitoring and testing protocol by developing templates and data analytics to capture and analyse life-cycle housing performance information from design, construction, commissioning, handover and operation stages
  • Preparation of papers for publication and making presentations at meetings and/or conferences.

You should have:

  • A higher degree (MSc/MPhil/PhD) in architectural engineering, building services, architecture or similar discipline
  • Experience of undertaking monitoring and/or post-occupancy evaluation of buildings
  • Experience of undertaking analysis of big datasets
  • Experience of designing and analyzing appropriate research tools, eg questionnaires and interviews
  • Experience of using dynamic thermal simulation packages such as IES
  • Advanced knowledge of energy use and carbon emission reductions in UK buildings.
