Detail information about job Professor of Biomedicine. Terms and conditions vacancy

Lancaster University has a world-class reputation as a centre for excellence in teaching and research. The Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, within the Faculty of Health and Medicine, now seeks to enhance its already strong profile of excellence by appointing a Professor of Biomedicine.

We want you to become part of a rapidly growing, innovative and vibrant Division whose research effort is directed towards understanding basic cellular and physiological mechanisms that underpin disease states. Research areas include, but are not limited to, infectious diseases, parasitology, neurodegeneration, mental health, ageing, immunology and cancer biology.

We expect you to participate fully in the intellectual and collective life of the division and to maintain a high quality research agenda that reaches out to external networks of collaborators.  You should have publications at a level appropriate for a significant contribution to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 and beyond. We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic and keen to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has relevant senior level administrative, management and leadership skills.

In return the Division can offer you a friendly research environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and which actively promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 in recognition of its good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.

We would particularly like to encourage female applicants for Professorial posts where there is current under-representation. Appointments will always be made on merit.

Informal enquiries, and pre-application visits, are welcomed. Please contact one of the following:

  • Professor Paul Bates, Head of Department, tel (01524) 593718, email: [email protected]
  • Dr Jackie Parry, Deputy Head of Department & Co-Chair of the Faculty’s Equality Enhancement Committee, tel (01524) 593489, email: [email protected]
  • Dr Sarah Allinson, Director of Research, tel (01524) 593922, email: [email protected]

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
