Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow with the University of Nottingham’s new Rights Lab, a Beacon of Excellence (www.nottingham.ac.uk/world/beacons/rights-lab/). This large-scale world-leading initiative is delivering research to help end contemporary slavery. One of our flagship projects, the Rights Compass, is developing a new monitoring and evaluation (M&E) platform for antislavery interventions. Directed by Professor Todd Landman, the Rights Compass for Monitoring and Evaluation will theorise the antislavery processes of intervention; develop common, calibrated M&E instruments; and disseminate and support the adoption of standardised M&E tools that help organisations to establish evidence-based programmes for future interventions. The Compass will draw on methodologies developed for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Social Impact Assessment (SIA), and Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) to create its own set of tools, methods, and protocols for monitoring and evaluating its own work and the work of others in combating modern slavery.

The role-holder will complete State of the Art Literature Reviews; collaborate with our antislavery NGO partners (including Walk Free) to develop a data base on existing antislavery interventions; develop protocols and methods for different types impact assessment (guidebook, templates, fact sheets, FAQs); and develop a business model for offering bespoke impact assessments. The role holder will also initiate and execute new research, develop new funding applications in support of the research programme, help to coordinate relationships with internal and external research partners and stakeholders, support the development of research publications, develop and deliver knowledge exchange towards impact, and contribute to the writing of policy and research reports for various audiences. The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods, and extend their research portfolio.

We welcome applications from recent PhD graduates those working towards a PhD, and from those who do not hold a PhD but have equivalent research experience and expertise, as well as from applicants with postdoctoral experience.

This is a full-time post (36.25 hours per week), however we will consider applications from candidates who wish to work part-time (minimum 18 hours per week). The role is available from 1 October 2017 as a fixed-term post for the academic year 2017-18 (ending 31 July 2018), with the potential for continuation.
