Detail information about job Domestic Bursar. Terms and conditions vacancy

St Edmund Hall is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford and currently has approximately 70 academic staff (Fellows and Lecturers), 400 undergraduate students, 300 postgraduate students and 35 visiting students.  Students are admitted in a range of subjects.

The Domestic Bursar is responsible for the delivery of the facilities and domestic services of the College to its Fellows, students, staff and visitors, in support of its core academic purpose.  He or she is also responsible for maximising opportunities to generate income from the College’s facilities and services, as far as is possible without impeding the academic activities of the College.

Crucial to fulfilling these responsibilities is a combination of strategic planning, effective execution, and a well-judged collaborative approach – all underpinned by the need to achieve results.

The College is a complex institution, with academic, religious, residential, catering, commercial and historic buildings issues all overlapping within a limited space.  The Domestic Bursar should be able to manage a large number of diverse problems, quickly be able to grasp the underlying issues and negotiate solutions sensitively, taking account of a variety of views, policies and interests that may sometimes conflict. However, this makes for an interesting, rewarding and stimulating experience that provides the opportunity to drive improvements and deliver excellence in a world-class yet friendly educational institution.

He or she will work closely with Fellows, senior staff and student representatives from both Junior and Middle Common Rooms (for undergraduates and postgraduates, respectively).  Much of the College’s business is conducted through committees, and the Domestic Bursar serves on several of these.

The successful candidate will possess advance strategic and operational experience in the service sector, with both a creative and a practical approach to management. The ability to establish relationships with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the College environment is essential as is a proven record of delivering results.
