Detail information about job Research Associate or Senior Research Associate in Modelling of Composites Manufacture. Terms and conditions vacancy
Based in world leading research teams in the composites and fluids groups within the department of aerospace engineering at the University of Bristol, this is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team working at the confluence between high-end numerical modelling and composites science.
You will develop new modelling tools based on smoothed particle hydrodynamics to compute the influence of short suspended fibres for automated tape laying. Work will be in close collaboration with fellow researchers conducting experimental testing, who will provide essential information for model generation and validation. High quality numerical analysis will be a crucial part of understanding the manufacturing process.
You will work on the development of custom written codes in either F90 or C/C++ to build complex models, reporting on results internally and to industrial partners. You will have at least a first degree and preferably a PhD in engineering/physics (or closely related discipline) and have good experience of either meshless, finite volume or finite element analysis techniques and programming as well as a wider knowledge fluids. A background knowledge of composites is also strongly desirable.
Results will be disseminated through conference and journal publications, so a demonstrated background in academic publishing is needed together with excellent presentation skills. International travel will be expected during the project.
This post is offered on a full time, open ended contract with funding for up to 18 months.
It is anticipated that interviews will take place shortly after the closing date.
