The Department of Engineering and Design wishes to appoint a Research Fellow in the rapidly growing field of 5G/beyond 5G Mobile Communications Networks.

The successful candidate will join the group of Prof. Maziar Nekovee, a world renowned expert in 5G. He/She is will conduct cutting-edge research into machine-learning algorithms and novel network analysis schemes for intelligent management of 5G and beyond-5G mobile communication networks, resulting in high-quality publication, software and hardware demonstrators and contributions to appropriate industry fora.

You will work closely with industrial collaborators of the group to ensure industry impact of the research results, and will be engaged in the groups’ extensive and worldwide collaboration networks which include, e.g., the EC-funded 5G Infrastructure Association (EU), the EPSRC-funded COMNET2 and the NSF-funded Collaborative Research Network (USA). The successful candidate is also expected to play a key role in the expansion of the group by assisting in the development of competitive bids to funding bodies and industry.

The successful candidate will have research expertise in one or multiple of the following areas: machine learning, telecommunications, digital communications and applications, algorithms and protocols, SDN, NFV, 5G and its evolution. He/She will be expected to be able to undertake high quality research and assist with teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level across core areas of electrical or computer engineering, and to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate Masters projects.

A PhD Degree in Computer Science or Electrical and Electronic Engineering and excellent working knowledge of machine-learning and computational artificial intelligence, gained through research and/or practice in industry is essential. Familiarity with mobile communications network architectures and protocols (LTE, 5G New Radio (NR)
