The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400.  The annual total consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.5 billion. 

DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING SERVICES ENGINEERING 

Assistant Professor in Building Safety and Resilience 

The appointee will be required to (a) undertake teaching duties at various levels; (b) supervise undergraduate/postgraduate research projects/theses; (c) conduct research in related areas and contribute to the development of the Department’s research strength; (d) initiate, lead and participate in scholarly research in his/her area of expertise and be active in research leading to quality journal publications and in bidding for research grants/projects; (e) engage in programme/curriculum planning, administration and development; (f) provide leadership in developing a programme, subject discipline or research programme, etc.; and (g) undertake relevant administrative duties. 

Applicants should (a) have a doctoral degree in a related discipline; (b) have strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; (c) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills and have good interpersonal skills; (d) have an excellent command of English; (e) have a good record of research/scholarship; and (f) demonstrate good potential in bidding for research grants and establishing significant externally funded research programmes.   Preference will be given to those with demonstrated track record and expertise in a related discipline. 

The candidates should demonstrate strong potential to be internationally prominent through a track record of excellent research in the discipline of Fire Safety Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering. They should contribute to the development and delivery of degree programmes; should demonstrate the ability to teach in engineering design relevant to their technical specialization; and should have been involved in major research projects.
