Position: Teaching Fellow in Digital Media Practice

The School is seeking to recruit a teaching fellow with very good academic or industry experience to contribute to the MA in Global Media Management.

The ideal candidate will have up-to-date creative, technical, and teaching experience in digital media production, with a focus on the online environment including some of the following: photography and video for the web and social media, Wordpress and other blog authoring/ CMS platforms, game design, online marketing/ advertising, digital/ interactive art practice. Knowledge of relevant industry issues and critical debates will also be required, in areas that could include cultural and creative industries, digital media culture, social media & network society, global issues and globalization, design in digital culture, politics of (big) data and/or mobile culture and platforms. An appreciation of the challenges and possibilities of media practice in a theory-led programme would be an advantage. The person should be able to teach on a significant size MA programme with a large proportion of international students in collaboration with the teaching team and under the guidance of the programme leader.

The role: Working with the existing staff team you will lead practical workshops and seminars with groups of postgraduate students, supporting and developing their creative technical skills, and linking this media practice to the MA’s academic and theoretical demands. You will contribute to the ongoing development of the curriculum and innovation in teaching where appropriate. Experience of teaching international students would be desirable. Under the guidance of the pathway leader you will assist with the administration, assessment and recruitment processes. Successful applicants will ideally have some existing industry connections and ideas about how they can be creatively used to enhance the student experience and build the profile of the course.

Programme background: The MA in Global Media Management is focused on global media in a critical and digital context. Through the programme, students will develop a critical understanding of the technological, cultural and political implications of changes in the media industries, and the hands-on and practical skills to engage with and shape them

The School’s Research Centre Global Futures in Art, Design and Media offers a vibrant research environment and mentoring of staff to help their career development.

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or near completion) or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in media, communications, journalism or related fields.
