FTE: Full time, working 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE)

The School of Life and Medical Sciences, Postgraduate Medicine at the University of Hertfordshire is seeking to appoint two Lecturers and two Senior Lecturers to contribute to the Masters programme in Optometry. 

The post holder will support learning and teaching, working as an integral part of the optometry and the wider team.  You will actively participate in the assessment of students, relevant research within the department and support the ongoing development of the MOptom degree. Your role will also involve the support development of placements with and in local trusts, community (multiple and independent) practice and industry, and the recruitment of patients to meet the programme needs.

This appointment will be made in accordance with guidance from the GOC that the post-holder must have:

  • At least two years recent and relevant post qualification practical experience;
  • Maintained a minimum of two years continuous GOC registration.

It is essential that you have:

  • First degree in Optometry or Vision Science
  • Higher degree or professional qualifications at postgraduate level
  • Proven recent and relevant post qualification practical experience e.g. experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with the ability to use appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods. (Senior Lecturer Only)
  • Experience in practice working in community, hospital or primary care with evidence of current clinical practice, with an awareness of current issues in health and optometry practice and include an inter-professional perspective. (Senior Lecturer Only)
  • Able to use a range of learning and teaching strategies to address the multiplicity of learning needs and contexts, to enthuse and engage students and the willingness to work with and create new and innovative ideas
  • An established research and/or consultancy reputation in a relevant field and experience of working in a collaborative research environment, with a record of publication and income generation. (Senior Lecturer Only)
  • Be a source of knowledge and expertise and possess breadth or depth of specialist knowledge with an interest in various aspects of optometry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organisational and time management skills
  • High standard of interpersonal negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Proficiency in English Language, and IT skills
  • Team player and evidence of leadership potential, with an enthusiastic and flexible attitude, and demonstrable self-reflection
  • Willingness to travel as required (Senior Lecturer Only)
