The School of Psychology at the University of Sussex is one of the largest centres for the study of psychology in the UK with considerable strengths in both research and teaching.
The School was rated 10th in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and receives excellent student ratings for its undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
The School offers a highly rated undergraduate degree course, a suite of PGT courses and has a substantial group of doctoral students, supported in part by an ESRC Doctoral Training Centre.
Applications are invited for a teaching fellow in the area of Biological Psychology, and will suit applicants who wish to develop a long-term academic career focused on teaching and supporting the student experience.
The main duties will include: lecture, practical, and seminar delivery; academic advising; assessment and feedback; and training Doctoral Tutors in both teaching methods and marking.
As well as teaching, time is also allocated to scholarship, and service (administrative duties) to the School.
It is essential to hold, or to be within two months of submitting, a PhD in Psychology, or very closely related discipline (e.g., Neuroscience). Teaching experience at undergraduate level is essential, as are excellent IT skills.
You should also have excellent written and spoken communication skills, be strongly motivated to educate students and have the skills necessary to interact effectively with staff and students at all levels.
