Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Experimental Geotechnics. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking a full time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the geotechnical engineering research group in the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is fixed-term for 12 months, starting from 1 November 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful applicant will be responsible for designing, building and commissioning intricate and highly innovative laboratory testing equipment for studying soil mechanics and soil-structure interaction problems at model scale. Advanced soil element testing, primarily using static and dynamic triaxial apparatus, may also be required. You will carry out the experimental work and produce reports and presentations.

You should hold (or be near to completion of) a relevant PhD/DPhil, along with appropriate experience. Researchers currently working in fields outside geotechnical engineering, but whose skills in areas such as mechanical apparatus development and small-scale instrumentation are relevant, are encouraged to apply. You will need the ability to devise, plan and execute high-quality laboratory-based experimental programs, including the design and build of appropriate equipment. You will also need the ability to evaluate, interpret and report experimental data within a proposed framework to a high standard.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Byron Byrne, [email protected].

As part of your online application you will be required to upload a covering letter including a brief statement of your research interests (describing how your past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), a detailed CV and contact details for two referees.

The deadline for applications is 12.00 midday on 20 September 2017.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
