Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Scientist: Oncometabolism Laboratory. Terms and conditions vacancy

Dr Saverio Tardito

Initial 3 year fixed term contract (with possibility of up to 2 years’ extension).

The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development and is one of the leading research institutes in Europe. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies, with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics, and in vivo models.

Would you like to develop your scientific career in a research institute that is founded on the quality of its people and designed to promote the development of the most outstanding and dedicated scientists?  Many early career researchers have already made that decision and at present over 100 of them are now benefiting from our excellent training programme.  We are looking to strengthen one of our newly established groups with more dedicated researchers who want to develop their careers in research science and participate in frontline biomedical research.

A research project is available in the Oncometabolism laboratory of Dr Saverio Tardito, with the aim of defining the role of glutamine metabolism in glioma (Tardito S, et al. Nat Cell Biol. 2015;17(12):1556-68). The post holder will contribute to the establishment of advanced primary cell models, as well as translational brain tumour models, such as human orthotopic xenografts. These models will be interrogated in vitro and in vivo by means of stable isotope tracing of nutrients, genetic and pharmacological interference, metabolic imaging, and biochemical assays, to gain a mechanistic understanding of the aberrant metabolism that underpins brain tumourigenesis.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, be driven by scientific curiosity, and have an excellent publication record in cell biology. Experience with in vivo models of cancer, in particular brain tumour models, and knowledge of cellular and organ metabolism will be an advantage.

For informal enquiries please email Dr Saverio Tardito at [email protected]

All applications must be made via our website at http://www.beatson.gla.ac.uk/careers/postdoctoral-fellows/.
