Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. It supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics and in vivo models of cancer.

The Tumour Cell Death group is a vibrant team which aims to understand how cell viability is controlled during tumour development and in response to cancer therapy.  We focus on apoptosis and autophagy – two pathways that control cell viability – and we study both existing and novel factors controlling these pathways.  We are interested in the basic molecular mechanisms of apoptosis and autophagy, coupled with the use of in vivo cancer models to understand the impact of these pathways on the establishment, maintenance and spread of cancer.  Ultimately, our studies aim to provide insights to both improve existing clinical regimens and to identify novels targets for therapeutic intervention.

You will have successfully completed a PhD in a field relevant to the molecular and cellular biology of cancer.  Although not essential, skills in microscopy, mammalian cell culture and molecular biology as well as knowledge of cancer models would also be an advantage.  Training will be provided for all aspects of the work, but you will be expected to be proactive and ambitious in your work.
