Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) to join the project 'The Flow of Ancient Metal across Eurasia' (FLAME) group in the School of Archaeology at the University of Oxford. The position is funded by the European Research Council and the grant led by Professor Mark Pollard.
The post is a full-time appointment, for a fixed-term starting as soon as possible and ending on 30 September 2020.
Applicants must have a PhD in archaeology or a related discipline. The FLAME project aims to track the flow of metal across Bronze Age Eurasia using novel approaches to chemical and isotopic data. The primary role of the PDRA will be to manage and develop the GIS database. Experience of GIS (preferably ArcGIS) and databases (preferably PostgresSQL) and a good knowledge of aspects of Eurasian Bronze Age archaeology and/or archaeo-metallurgy are essential. Experience of Java Script and Python programming and web design (including basic knowledge of HTML and CSS) is desirable.
The successful applicant will be expected to be able to work independently to publish research of an international standard, and to collaborate with team members in Oxford and abroad.
