Detail information about job Research Associate: NIHR Global Health on Stillbirth Prevention and Management in Sub-Saharan Africa. Terms and conditions vacancy

We have an existing opportunity to recruit an enthusiastic Research Associate to work on an International project related to stillbirth. Globally, 2.6 million babies die just before or during birth annually; 98% of these occur in low and middle income countries. Stillbirth is a tragedy for women and families.  In low income countries, over half of stillbirths happen during labour and little support is offered.

The project will tackle 3 areas of care. We will 1) gain understanding of the issues in improving stillbirth prevention, 2) assess the quality of care provided, and 3) implement interventions to improve bereavement care.

The focus of your work will be on ensuring that the project objectives are met. This will include a range of activities including protocol development, gaining ethical approvals, co-ordinating data collection, analysing data, contributing to training, providing progress reports and liaising with the wider team. Additional research activities may also be required, according to the needs of the project.

You will form part of the team in the Centre for Global Women’s Health at the University of Manchester, and will work in collaboration with the Lugina Africa Midwives Research Network (www.LAMRN.org), a network of 6 countries whose vision is to improve the outcomes and experiences of pregnant women. This post will involve travel to Africa, as required.

The School is strongly committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for gender equality in higher education. The School holds a Silver Award which recognises their good practice in relation to gender; including flexible working arrangements, family-friendly policies, and support to allow staff achieve a good work-life balance. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post. Appointment will always be made on merit. For further information, please visit:
