MAX-CAM Research Assistant/Associate x 3
The Division of Social Anthropology is seeking to appoint three full-time Research Associates to contribute to the research initiatives of the MAX-CAM Centre for the Study of Ethics, Human Economy, and Social Change, in the Division of Social Anthropology, for a period of four years or until 31 December 2021, whichever is the sooner. The primary aim of the posts is to provide strategic support for the research aims and outputs of the Centre and carry out anthropological research involving periods of fieldwork. The MAX-CAM Centre is a major research initiative, that sits under the Division of Social Anthropology in Cambridge, and is supported by the Max Planck Society, the Isaac Newton Trust and the University of Cambridge. The Centre is devoted to the study of the interconnections between economic and ethical change, with a focus on the role of ritual practice in mediating these changes. It aims to develop novel theoretical positions of interdisciplinary interest in its focal areas as well as generating new empirical findings.
The post holder is expected to manage their own research independently but contribute to the joint activities and outputs of the Centre, including working closely with the team of four Research Associates in the Centre in Cambridge and two Associates who will be based in Germany.
The applicants will have, or be about to be awarded, a PhD in a relevant field. They will have experience of carrying out fieldwork, preferably in the study of ethics, the human economy and social change. They will also have an excellent command of written and spoken English. Initiative, motivation, effective teamwork and liaison with other team members and collaborators in the UK and abroad are crucial to the role.
Successful candidates who have not been awarded their PhD by the appointment date will be under-appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5). Upon award of the PhD the individual will be promoted to Research Associate (Grade 7). The salary will be in the range of £25,298- £29,301 per annum for appointment at Research Assistant level or £31,076- £38,183 per annum for Research Associate level (PhD holders).
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 4 years in the first instance, or until 31 December 2021 whichever is the sooner.
