The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence.

The aim of creating the School of Humanities and Social Science is to provide foundations in humanities and social science through its teaching for students to gain insights into the past, while enabling them to critically examine contemporary issues, and explore answers for a sustainable future, so that our students can be better positioned to respond to challenges facing China and the world. In the beginning years, our School offers core courses of the University, ranging from language courses to General Education foundation and elective courses, including also IT and PE courses. Our curricula focus on developing students’ analytical abilities, critical comprehension, effective communication skills, IT literacy, as well as their physical fitness, which are essential to their further studies and lifelong learning.

The Self-Access Language Learning Centre (The SALL Centre) is a unit within the School of Humanities and Social Science set up to provide individualized language learning opportunities for students to consolidate and brush up their level of English language proficiency. The Centre is open to all students enrolled at CUHK(SZ), regardless of their levels of study. Learning is completely on students’ own, at the students’ own pace and by the students’ own choice of learning materials.

Post SpecificationApplicants should have (i) a post-graduate degree in English, TEFL/TESOL, or (applied) linguistics; (ii) at least three (3) years of teaching experience in ESL/EFL or English at the tertiary level; (iii) proven record of teaching excellence; and (iv) native-like fluency and competence in spoken and written English. Experience in materials writing, programme planning and/or working in a language lab or Writing Centre will be a plus.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) holding workshops and seminars on specific topics in English; (b) tutoring/consultation; (c) developing language learning materials; (d) programme planning; (e) performing duties as assigned and (f) assisting in day-to-day operation of the Centre.

The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year of 2017-18.

Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labour laws applicable in the PRC. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, PRC.
