Hours of Work – Typically full-time during University semesters and part-time during vacation periods.

Applications are invited for the post of Mental Health Nurse/Adviser within the University’s Health Service and Disability Services departments. The post will be shared on a 50/50 basis between both services but hours of work may vary to meet the demands of each service.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and qualified Mental Health Nurse with a person-centred approach to the delivery of support services and a commitment to the social model of disability. The University’s population is a highly diverse mix of domestic and international students and staff, offering varied and interesting challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity to join two professional teams as we progress our services during a period of changing demand. You will be an enthusiastic team member with a willingness to learn, a highly organised and flexible approach, and the ability to work within strict confidentiality requirements. You will also need to be able to maintain the professional boundaries of your role in each service.

You will be primarily responsible for delivering services for students and staff experiencing mental health difficulties. This will include undertaking mental state and risk assessments, offering psychological therapy input, providing confidential advice, identifying and arranging support, and providing mental health mentoring to individual students. You will also be expected to undertake study needs assessments, including through our Access Centre services, and to contribute to our mental health-related training programme.

You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and an understanding of the mental health and disability legal framework and relevant legislation surrounding health care provision. Experience of supporting students in higher education will be an advantage but is not essential. Further details are available in the job description and further particulars for the post.

Interviews will be held on 4th October 2017 where you will be asked to undertake a short, live work sample and to give a presentation on the anticipated challenges of the role. Further details will be provided to those candidates invited for interview.
