Grade 7- Full time starting salary is normally in the range £29,301 to £38,183. With potential progression once in post to £40,523 a year.

A Research Fellow position is available in the field of internal combustion engine and engine exhaust after treatments within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.

PARTIAL-PGMs is a HORIZON2020 funded project, involving 14 industrial and academic partners from the UK, the EU and the USA and is aiming at radically change the design of catalysts and materials used in after treatment systems of road vehicles. The aim of the proposed research work at the University of Birmingham is to contribute in the rational design of smart and innovative nanostructured automotive after-treatment systems. We seek candidate with multidisciplinary expertise in internal combustion engines, emissions speciation and characterisation and catalysts/after treatments function and engine testing.

The ideal candidate will have preferably completed, or be near completion of a Doctorate degree in mechanical engineering or related subject area. Previous research experience in mechanical or chemical engineering, chemistry or physical sciences is desirable. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake an experimental programme as well as good communication and team working skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly (including the writing of reports and publications and the presentation of results at conferences and meetings) with a minimum of supervision.

The successful candidate is expected to interact closely with the industrial and academic partners in order to provide regular research progress updates. The candidate will also assist in the projects overall research direction and co-ordinate research work with the work package leader.
