Detail information about job Research Technician. Terms and conditions vacancy

The School of Biological Sciences within the Faculty of Science is seeking a Research Technician on a NERC-funded project in a team supervised by Professors Andrew Bourke and Tracey Chapman. The aim of the project is to investigate costs of reproduction and the fecundity-longevity trade-off in the bumble bee Bombus terrestris and the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster. The wider goal is to determine the effects of social evolution on the evolution of ageing. Approaches will include experimental manipulations of bumble bees and flies in the laboratory, transcriptomics and bioinformatics.

Applicants will be educated to HNC, BTEC2 or first degree level or equivalent qualification in a relevant science subject and be able to satisfy all other essential criteria outlined in the person specification for this post.

The post is available from 1 October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter on a part-time, 80%, 0.8fte basis for a fixed term period until to 30 September 2020.

The University is a Bronze Athena Swan Award holder, currently working towards Silver.
