Detail information about job Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy
The nuclear theory group at the Department of Physics, University of York invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position starting in autumn 2017. Academic members in the group are Jacek Dobaczewski and Alessandro Pastore. We have strong ties to the nuclear experiment group at York and numerous nuclear theory groups worldwide.
This role is part of a Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Consolidated Grant 2017. You will conduct research including analysis and interpretation of research data, writing up research results and dissemination of research outputs. You will work on developing novel and advanced nuclear energy density functionals (EDFs) with the overarching goal of improving the precision and predictive power of nuclear density functional theory. In particular, you will contribute to building and implementing novel quasilocal and nonlocal EDFs based on higher-order derivative expansions and on adjusting their coupling constants to experimental data and/or to ab initio metadata. You will also contribute to deriving model EDFs directly from ab initio calculations for light nuclei and constructing the databases of metadata. You will also assist in the identification and development of potential areas of research. You will have a PhD in theoretical nuclear physics or equivalent experience, together with knowledge in theoretical nuclear physics to engage in high quality research. You will be proficient in numerical methods and computing, while proficiency in methods of nuclear DFT and in ab initio methods of nuclear physics would be an advantage. You must have experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research, and of writing up research work for publication. You must also be competent in making presentations at conferences or exhibiting work in other events. Postdoctoral experience in theoretical nuclear physics is desirable.
Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Jacek Dobaczewski: [email protected] +44 (0)1904 322449.
Salary will be within the range £31,076 - £38,183 a year. The post is fixed-term for two years with the possibility of an extension for a further two years. The post is full-time.
