The National Children’s Bureau is a unique charity in the children’s voluntary sector bringing together practice development, policy influencing, research and children’s voices to build a better childhood for every child, especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Hours: 28 or 35 hours per week.

We have a strong track record from over 50 years of work using our expert knowledge and evidence to influence government and deliver improvements in practice in education, early years, health and children’s social care services across the country.

Research is at the heart of the organisation’s work, and influencing decision makers is vital to achieving our mission. This is an exciting opportunity to join NCB’s Research and Policy team and make a major contribution to our research and policy work.

The ideal candidate will hold a graduate/postgraduate qualification in a relevant social science or similar numerate discipline and have substantial experience in social research involving children and young people (excluding study for academic qualifications).  You will also have substantial experience of communicating research findings to different audiences and writing high quality reports and research proposals.  And you will have a good understanding of the current children and young people’s policy landscape. Experience of participation work with children and young people is also highly desirable.

You will need to have experience managing and delivering research projects including setting and quality assuring standards of quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation; having a sound understanding of different sampling and data collection approaches and tools; experience of data analysis and interpretation and of supervising other members of staff. You will also be an excellent communicator with first class writing and presentation skills.
