The postholder will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering STEM outreach activities aimed at all ages. These activities make use of Kingston’s “Lab in a Lorry” and our dedicated STEM outreach centre, both of which are fully equipped with state of the art STEM resources. The role also includes primary responsibility for coordinating delivery of the National Science and Engineering Saturday Club at Kingston. Much of your time will be spent out of the office delivering activities at schools and colleges in the region. You must be prepared to work the occasional evening and regular Saturdays between January and May (time off in lieu will be granted).
The Person
You must have a graduate or equivalent background in a STEM subject. A full, clean driving licence is essential as the postholder will be required to drive the University’s ‘Lab in a Lorry’ to schools and colleges within the region. The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of the various progression routes into Higher Education and an awareness of issues relating to the progression of students from non-traditional backgrounds. Experience of working with school and college pupils is desirable. Excellent presentation and communication skills are required, as is the ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining high standards.
Directorate
The University’s widening participation team is part of the Marketing and Communications Directorate, which provides a strategic operational and advisory service to the University on all aspects of external promotion and internal publicity. This includes UK and international marketing, student recruitment, admissions, widening participation, market research, website management, social media, media relations, branding, copy writing, editing, design and print. We are committed to providing inspiring, accessible and relevant information in a timely and useful manner. This role is based in the Widening Participation team within the directorate.
