The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing helps manufacturers of any size to become more competitive by introducing advanced techniques, technologies, and processes. The IT Team support the AMRC’s engineers by providing the IT hardware, software, and services necessary to develop those techniques, technologies, and processes.
In the role of Senior IT Technician you will work as part of the AMRC IT team based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Catcliffe, Rotherham. The IT/AV Technicians and IT Support Coordinator provide day-to-day support to staff and students in the maintenance and troubleshooting of problems relating to PCs, laptops, networks, licensing, data storage, software, AV equipment, and requisitioning of hardware and peripherals.
The successful candidate will oversee the work of the IT/AV Technicians, providing technical expertise and guidance to the Technicians, as well as proposing and implementing improvements to the current service to ensure the smooth flow of work and high quality service to end users.
You will also support the IT Systems Managers with the delivery of IT projects such as Cyber Essentials +, migration of systems, and upgrading and augmentation of data storage systems.
You will hold a relevant IT related technical qualification, have experience of working within a busy face to face technical support environment, knowledge of Microsoft 7/8/10 Windows deployment and imaging; with, ideally, also knowledge of software packaging and automated scripted deployment, Microsoft Active Directory domains, and operating to ITIL principles for service management, though training can be provided. You will also have good communications skills, experience of motivating and communicating with a team of staff, good interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, and experience of creating standard operating procedures and technical documentation.
