The European Policies Research Centre, in the School of Government & Public Policy, is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to contribute to the comparative European policy research and knowledge exchange (KE) undertaken in the Centre. The appointee would participate in academic and policy research and KE programmes on regional development, particularly with respect to the design and regulation of national regional policies, EU Competition policy and regional aid, and the implementation of European Structural and Investment Funds.

The post involves developing identifying and securing research funding, developing research proposals, leading projects, coordinating or managing small research teams, and presenting results to stakeholders. The post would suit an applicant with a PhD and research experience on regional development, or equivalent professional experience (e.g. as policy analyst in a consultancy or as senior policy officer in a local, national or EU government authority).

It is essential that applicants have complete fluency in English and Dutch; other language abilities would be an advantage.

The post is for 24 months in the first instance, and will be extended subject to further funding. Although the main EPRC base is at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, a new secondary base has been established at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands; the appointee should be willing to be based in Delft or work from there for extended periods if required, following an initial period based in Glasgow.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Professor John Bachtler, Director ([email protected]; 0141 548 3339) or to Professor Fiona Wishlade, Director ([email protected]; 0141 548 3061).

If selected for interview, candidates will be asked to give a short presentation on previous research or work experience relevant to the post; part of the interview may be conducted in Dutch. Following the interview, they will also be asked to undertake a short test involving preparation of an English-language summary of Dutch policy documents. Interviews are likely to take place on 27 September 2017.
