Why you might want this Job
The Energy Systems Catapult is excited by the potential of technology to generate exciting energy services & products that will help transform the UK’s energy system.
We are undertaking some innovate research in pursuit of this and data will be central to the evolution of those solutions.
The user-generated data sets we have access to are both big and unique. We rely on the use of advanced techniques, methods and processes to extract valuable knowledge and insights from that data.
As a Data Scientist with the Catapult you will collaborate with a range of stakeholders to analyse big data, develop new machine learning models, and to develop full solutions that are underpinned by technologies such as:
Mean Stack (MongoDB, Express.js, AngularJS, and Node.js.), Apache Spark, Cassandra, Kafka.
The Catapult’s advanced new award winning centre at Cannon House in Birmingham has been designed to instigate collaboration and creativity, members of the development team are encouraged to express themselves and actively participate in how we might embrace new technologies, approaches and idea’s.
This opportunity will allow you, amongst other things, to devise and implement advanced data analysis using machine learning techniques, build tools that benefit the wider data practice infrastructure and to work collaboratively with the team to create and embed appropriate machine learning algorithms into existing innovative software platforms.
You
You are likely to have recently completed a PHD with a real focus on either Machine Learning or Statistical Models and will be able to demonstrate some impressive data analysis capabilities using R and /or Python. If you have utilised Scala and Spark to develop machine learning algorithm’s, that will be of particular interest.
You will possess a deep theoretical knowledge of data science techniques which will in turn will be complemented by a solid track record in applying those techniques to complex data challenges.
You will be proactive and enthusiastic about continuing to develop your data science knowledge and knowhow and will be keen to work in a collaborative data focused environment that will help you to do that.
So, if you would like to work in a great space with a passionate team who love using the latest technologies to tackle complex energy data challenges, don’t hesitate, pop us through an application.
