UCC wishes to appoint a Professor in Biopharmaceutical Engineering, a post funded through the generous support of Eli Lilly. The Eli Lilly Professorship in Biopharmaceutical Engineering, which will be located within with the Process & Chemical Engineering Unit of the School of Engineering, provides an exciting opportunity for a candidate of international standing to lead and develop biopharmaceutical engineering across the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science.

Working under the general direction of the Head of the School of Engineering, the Professor will be expected to deliver research-led teaching and further develop existing as well as new teaching capacity in biopharmaceutical engineering. Process & Chemical Engineering currently offers biopharmaceutical engineering modules in undergraduate and masters engineering programmes, and also contributes to other programmes across the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science including courses in Biotechnology.

The appointee will have a substantial international research reputation in Biopharmaceutical or Biochemical Engineering, as well as the capacity to provide strong and proactive academic leadership in developing a high impact biopharmaceutical engineering research programme, as part of an integrated and collaborative approach to biopharmaceutical research across the university, through linking with cognate related disciplines.

The Professor will build on existing local industry connections and lead the further development of collaborative links (research and other) with Eli Lilly and across the industry more broadly. Eli Lilly’s site, located in nearby Kinsale, is the main centre for the manufacture and supply of active ingredients for its new biopharmaceutical medicines, following recent significant investment in its biopharmaceutical manufacturing and commercialisation facilities.
