Are you a highly organised individual with significant experience of working within a busy financial environment?

This is a key role within the Planning & Administration section within Information Services (IS). The primary function is to provide direct support to the Finance Manager in relation to the Department’s financial administration ensuring compliance with the University’s internal financial and procurement regulations. You will act as an account manager for one or more costs centres and provide direct support to budget holders.

The role requires an individual with experience of working with accounts payable processes and has experience of budget analysis and forecasting. You will be required to use your own initiative and embrace all elements of the role while providing a proactive and customer-focussed service.

As a Finance Assistant you will:

  • Proactively demonstrate an excellent level of knowledge of and an understanding of current and future financial implications for the cost centres they support
  • Proactively support budget holders in understanding their responsibilities and managing their budgets by undertaking training, leading meetings, creating reports and suggesting courses of action
  • Analyse monthly financial reports, provide tailored feedback and forecast financial outcomes and ensure all activity takes place within the University’s internal financial and procurement regulations and timelines.

To succeed in this role you will:

  • Be AAT qualified (full or part) (Association of Accountancy Technician) or the equivalent
  • Have GCSE English and Mathematics or equivalent at grade C or above and hold a European Computer Driving Licence (or willingness to obtain)
  • Demonstrable experience of using databases and spreadsheets and advanced level Excel together with the use of Outlook and Word and Significant experience of successfully using a finance system (e.g. UNIT4 Agresso)

Information Services is comprised of four sections: Customer Support, Library Collections and IT Development together directly support almost all areas of University activity, and the Planning and Administration section supports the work of the department. The IT Support Services subsection of Customer Services is responsible for the support and operation of all live central IT systems on the University’s Canterbury, Medway and Tonbridge campuses.
