UCL was awarded an EPSRC Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Early Warning Sensing Systems for Infectious Disease. This is a £11M, five year collaborative research programme. The purpose of this post is to investigate how to (i) utilise the vast amounts of web-accessible information sources to actively monitor and map emerging infections in real-time, integrating with current surveillance practices, and (ii) utilize web-based dissemination mechanisms such as Twitter and Facebook for purposes on online non-pharmacological interventions.
This position is funded until 30 September 2018 in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available.
Applicants should have a PhD (or will shortly be assessed for a PhD level qualification) in computer science or related discipline. We welcome applications form those with knowledge of web programming, databases, visualization tools and in machine learning or big data analytics.
