We are looking to appoint a Lecturer (Research and Teaching) and a Lecturer (Teaching Focused)

College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities

University of Leicester School of Business

Permanent contract

The Work and Employment Division of the University of Leicester School of Business is concerned with a broad understanding of labour, work, employment and regulation drawing on the traditions of sociology of work, work psychology, industrial relations and political economy. Our research examines workplaces and the experience of work, HRM strategies and practices, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, labour standards, outsourcing, precarious work and trade union renewal, and has included studies of occupations (such as health professionals, creative employees and customer service workers), non-standard and voluntary workers, youth unemployment and employment, and transitions amongst older workers from paid work into retirement.

Among other qualities, you will have a sincere understanding of and share the School’s vision. You will be able to demonstrate your commitment to teaching excellence. You will have excellent communication and presentation skills and be able to inspire both staff and students alike.

In addition to being engaged in innovative learning and teaching, you will have an established reputation for research, with a strong record of publications (appropriate to your level of experience) in peer reviewed journals of substantial standing. You will have excellent networking skills which you use to seek out opportunities for collaboration and citizenship, both internally and externally. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to generate external funding through research grants, contracts or other sources.

Finally, you will have a track record of engaging with a range of communities related to your research and teaching interests, including external organisations.

Informal enquiries are welcome. In the first instance, please email Kerry Whatmore on [email protected], with details of a convenient time and telephone number. The relevant Head of Division will then contact you for a confidential discussion about the role.
