The Department of Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) at the University of Sheffield is responsible for the management of the University's estate, including managing property and facilities and developing new buildings.

We are seeking to appoint a new Lead Arborist who will lead the University’s tree team with all aspects of reactive and planned tree maintenance. You will be experienced and certified in all aspects of tree works to include climbing, felling, maintenance, inspections, reporting, and hedge cutting.

The successful applicant will have a thorough understanding of current health and safety legislation and best practise delivery of arboriculture. You will be self-motivated, conscientious, and a team player. You will demonstrate efficient levels of service maximising the working day at all times and have responsibility for the safe delivery and completion of all work activities.

The role will require an excellent understanding of effective delivery of maintenance tree works. You will be responsible for ensuring all tree works are risk assessed and current legislation is adhered to. You will possess a thorough understanding of diverse landscape procedures and have a critical eye to ensure the landscape's value is optimised and improved at all times.

You will play an integral role in the cold weather programme to ensure that the University remains operational during periods of cold weather. You will be included in the Landscape Services out of hours cold weather team and the team’s rota to respond to major weather events.

The post will operate on an agreed annualised hours based contract. This will operate on the basis of a 40 hour week April to September and 30 hour week October to March.
