Detail information about job Research Associate (Electron Microscopy). Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to apply cryo-electron microscopy to study the molecular basis of co-translational protein folding as it occurs within living systems. This emerging project will be complemented by established research within the laboratory which applies biomolecular NMR spectroscopy to examine the structure, dynamics and folding of a nascent chain as it is being synthesised on the ribosome. The work will be undertaken at the Department of Structural and Molecular Biology at UCL, and Birkbeck College, as part of the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology (http://www.ismb.lon.ac.uk/), and via the Francis Crick Institute. The ISMB is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including excellent cryo-electron microscopy facilities at the Birkbeck Electron Microscopy and Image Processing Laboratory and via close collaborative links with Prof Elena Orlova.

This Wellcome Trust funded post is funded for one year in the first instance with the possibility for extension.

The starting salary will be Grade 7, spine point 29: £31,076 per annum, plus £2,980 London Allowance.

Applicants should have a relevant PhD in cryo-electron microscopy and/or tomography, and with experience in molecular dynamics simulations and/or recombinant protein purification. Experience in studying ribosomes, protein (mis)folding and/or protein-based interactions would be highly advantageous. The candidate joining the laboratory will be a highly motivated individual that can work both independently as well as a part of a team, and have a willingness and desire to develop their work through the supervision of PhD students in collaboration with other group members and collaborators.
