Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Probabilistic Programming. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking two full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistants in Probabilistic Programming to join Dr Frank Wood’s research group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The posts are funded by DARPA under its Data-Driven Discovery of Models (D3M) program (https://tinyurl.com/jewejpx) and are fixed-term for 1 year, with a possibility of renewing after depending on funding.

The research aims at developing automated model discovery systems and a software toolchain for building empirical models of real, complex processes using an extensive library of model primitives. Candidates will be responsible for conducting wide-ranging fundamental research at the intersection of probability, statistics, inference, modelling, compiler and language theory, and applications. Candidates should have willingness to develop and contribute software model components to the project partners; they will also be expected to travel to Washington, DC, US to engage in project-related activities.

Candidates must possess a PhD in computer science, statistics, or another closely related discipline. Candidates should have appropriate experience in conducting research, implementing software systems, and publishing results in one or more of the fields of machine learning (generative modelling, variational inference, computational probability), computer science (programming languages, compiler and interpreter design, formal semantics), and statistics (Markov chain Monte Carlo, sequential Monte Carlo and related techniques). Please see job description for details.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Frank Wood using the email below. Please include “[D3M PDRA]” in the subject line.

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 20 September 2017 can be considered.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
