Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM), Structural Genomics Consortium, Old Road Campus Research Building, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford OX3 7DQ

Grade 8: £39,324 - £46,924 p.a.

The SGC (Structural Genomics Consortium) is seeking a Translational Scientist with leadership qualities to catalyse the translation of small molecule inhibitors identified within the SGC into clinical candidates for early-stage clinical trials in inflammatory disease.

You will liaise with SGC staff and their collaborators to identify novel clinical opportunities, establish translational research plans, secure funding, and manage these projects through existing research teams within the SGC and its collaborative network, both local and international, with the aim for each person to take one project into clinical trials. The new post forms part of a new collaboration between the SGC and the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, a partnership between the University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals, funded by the National Institute for Health Research. The post is suitable for both clinical and non-clinical scientists with the relevant background.

In your role as Translational Scientist, you will have knowledge of biological mechanisms of disease and of the challenges of developing small molecule inhibitors. You will be educated to PhD in a biomedical research field and possess significant postdoctoral, clinical scientist or industrial experience with relevance to inflammatory disease or drug discovery.

A good publication record in biomedical science, including experience of independently writing scientific reports and manuscripts would be essential.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online, and as part of the application you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement.

Only applications received before 12.00 noon on 18 September 2017 will be considered.
