Grade 7: £31,076 - £38,183 p.a. 

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a BBSRC funded project linking metabolism to ageing and chromatin. This position is for a candidate with training in advanced molecular biology techniques applied to gene expression and an excellent track record of applying these skills to a biological problem. Some experience of bioinformatics analysis of large data sets is essential. You will work as part of vibrant research group focusing on gene expression and its control, and will work collaboratively with a computational biologist. The aim of this project is to enhance our fundamental understanding of gene expression, how it is regulated by metabolism and how dysregulation of this link can lead to premature ageing. To achieve this, synchronised yeast cells with different metabolic and chromatin states will be used to study gene expression; specifically nascent transcription, transcript levels, transcript location, nascent translation and the proteome. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with mathematical modellers in the Department of Biochemistry. 

Applicants should possess a PhD, or expect to obtain soon a PhD in a relevant subject area. You are expected to have one or more publications in refereed journals, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience of assessing nascent transcription or translation using NET-seq, PRO-seq, GRO-seq, ribosome profiling or an equivalent technique is essential. You will also have general molecular biology skills, including use of ChIP-seq and RNA-seq. Experience of working with S cerevisiae, handling and analysis of large data sets and excellent team working skills are also required. 

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the BBSRC for up to 2 years.
