Detail information about job Administrative & Events Assistant, Millennium Maths Project (Part Time). Terms and conditions vacancy

The Millennium Mathematics Project (maths.org) is currently seeking a part-time (0.4 FTE) Administrative and Events Assistant with excellent communication skills, organisational ability and initiative to join our busy and friendly team.

The MMP is an outreach and education project which supports and promotes imaginative, engaging, rich mathematics education for ages 3 to 19. Based in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, the MMP is a collaboration between the Faculties of Mathematics and Education, and includes a range of programmes working with school students, teachers and the general public. The post is an interesting and varied job which involves supporting the general administration of this high-profile and successful project, including acting as first point of contact for public enquiries, providing administrative help for the project team, and taking on considerable responsibility for organising a wide-ranging events schedule.

The successful applicant will have excellent organisational and communication skills. They will be flexible and adaptable, able to work effectively with other members of the team and to manage parallel requests for support from several sources within the project. The ability to work accurately without direct supervision, to prioritise your work under pressure and to meet deadlines is essential. Previous experience in organising events is an advantage. Good IT skills, and a willingness to learn to use new online systems and software packages as needed, are essential. A good level of numeracy (at least GCSE Maths or equivalent) is essential and the postholder must be able to monitor budgets and payments. Previous experience of the University Finance System is useful but not essential (training is available). The postholder will have considerable responsibility for many areas of their work and must enjoy the opportunity to work on their own initiative.

This part-time 0.4 FTE post is held as a job share with two other members of staff (one full-time and one 0.3 FTE). There is some flexibility in how the hours of work could be arranged. However, the postholder will be expected to be present at conferences, enrichment days and events, and this may therefore entail some flexibility in working hours: please see the further particulars for details.

To submit an application for this vacancy, please click on the link in the 'Apply online' section of the advert published on the University's Job Opportunities pages at http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/14393. This will route you to the University's Web Recruitment System, where you will need to register an account (if you have not already) and log in before completing the online application form.

On the online form in the ‘Suitability for the Role’ section you should explain your reasons for your application and your suitability for the role as you would in a cover letter. In this section, please also provide information on how your knowledge, skills and experience match the requirements set out in the person profile in the further particulars. The full contacts for two referees should be included; please note that we will assume that you are happy for us to approach your referees at any stage, unless you indicate otherwise in the space provided on the form.

Informal enquiries may be directed in the first instance to the following email:   [email protected].

Closing date: Tuesday 12 September

Interview date: Thursday 21 September
