We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Lecturer (Scholarship) in Forensic Pathology within the Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences.

This is a stand-alone, fixed term post for 6 months that offers experience in all aspects of Forensic Medicine and conducting autopsies. In addition the post holder will be able to devote up to 20% of their time in structured educational and scholarship activities such as education, leadership, quality improvement, research. The programme of educational and scholarship activities will be planned with the successful candidate. Mentorship will be offered for this aspect of the role.

You will be responsible for assisting the Senior Clinical Lecturer in Forensic Pathology in the provision of the Forensic Pathology service to the North East of Scotland and Shetland Isles. This post would suit an enthusiastic medical practitioner with an interest in pathology and/or morbid anatomy; the post would prove particularly beneficial to someone intending a career in histopathology, but would also be of considerable value in a variety other medical specialties.

There are abundant opportunities to become involved in the development and delivery of the teaching function of the unit, which includes contributions in the undergraduate medical and law programmes. This may form the focus of the educational and scholarship time in the post. Alternatively the post holder may be interested in research or quality improvement work. The post holder will also have access to the postgraduate educational aspects of the Pathology Department and be encouraged to link with the network of career / clinical development fellows in other specialties across NHSG.

You must have a MBChB or equivalent medical qualification, successful completion of FY1 and FY2 foundation programme and have full Registration with the GMC, with a licence to practise, at the time of appointment. It is expected that you will participate as appropriate in teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  In addition, research in Forensic Pathology will be encouraged.

The appointee will be accorded NHS Honorary status as appropriate.

This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.

As this post is externally funded it will be available for 6 months with the possibility of an extension.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Rona Patey, Director of the Institute (e-mail: [email protected] or Tel: 01224 437960).

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the clinical salary scale for clinical academics below the level of consultant (£33,131 - £58,598 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.

This post does not meet the minimum requirements as issued by UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) to qualify for an employer-sponsored visa. We are therefore unable to consider applications from candidates for this post who require sponsorship to work in the UK.

It is the policy of the University, in line with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007, that the postholder is a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme. Any offer of employment will be conditional on a satisfactory Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme Record check being received.
