Teaching Laboratory Technician (2 posts)
Applications are invited for two Teaching Laboratory Technician posts. The post holders will be responsible for the effective maintenance and running of the Teaching Laboratories. You will be required to carry out a range of tasks, and ensure that students fully understand the experiments and how to use equipment correctly and safely.
You will play a major role in demonstrating chemistry experiments to undergraduates, as well as outreach to children and young adults, ensuring all experiments have sufficient equipment and stock.
You will maintain good stock control of all chemicals, clean and maintain all equipment on a daily basis during term-time and set up experiments for the lab practicals.
You will have a good training in chemistry or a related subject (minimum A-level and ideally to degree level) or have equivalent experience. Ideally the successful candidates will have previous experience of working in a busy laboratory or an interest in laboratory work, and will have an understanding of Health and Safety, COSHH, safe storage and use of chemicals. You will also need to be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
The two post holders will initially be based in the Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Teaching Laboratories. From April 2018, the roles will no longer focus on Physical and Organic Chemistry, but will be part of a new structure which will cover the broad spectrum of chemistry for either first years, or second and third years.
