Detail information about job Registered Healthcare Scientist Genomic Bioinformatic. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Bioinformatician/Computor Scientist to work at the Leeds Genetics Laboratory; a NHS service Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust.

Our laboratory has pioneered the implementation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) across a wide range of both constitutional and acquired genetic services since 2010 when we issued the first NGS diagnostic report nationally. The technology has revolutionised our services with exome sequencing, CNVseq and panel tests now offered routinely. The laboratory provides a regional service, to Clinical Genetics and other local clinical specialities including ophthalmologist, cardiologists and immunologists. A growing number of specialist tests are offered nationally and internationally.

In Leeds, NGS developments are centred in the Translational Genomics Unit, a joint NHS/University facility where the sequencers (including an Illumina MiSeq, NextSeq and HiSeq 3000) and supporting infrastructure, are situated. The successful candidate would be working alongside scientists and bioinformaticians in the Translational Unit, Leeds Genetics Laboratory and Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Unit (HMDS), benefiting from the broad range of local expertise.

The successful candidate will have proven experience of applied bioinformatics  (which could  include a Masters in Bioinformatics), including advanced skills in a modern programming language, ability to analyse large complex data sets using a variety of statistical/computational tools and applied knowledge and experience of using database management tools (eg. SQL and MSAccess).

Applicants not currently registered with Health and Care Professions Council as a Healthcare Scientist (Clinical Bioinformatics) should possess sufficient experience in order to be eligible to apply for Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) certificate of Equivalence or complete STP training within one year of commencing employment.  Full support will be provided locally in order to enable candidates to achieve registration.

The post holder will be required to work 37.5 hours per week full-time and contribute to out-of-hour’s rotas including weekends and bank holidays as required.
